Charles asks…
Is the cash for clunkers program hurting the poor by getting rid of good used vehicles?
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/08/05/cash-clunkers-puts-brakes-donations/
Should the government donate some of these good used cars to provide the poor with reliable transportation so that they can go to work?
CSC101 Customer Service answers:
Yes…..the ” cash for clunkers ” program is nothing more than a cheap parlor trick designed to draw attention away from the fact that all of Obama’s programs are actually economic failures.
The ” cash for clunkers ” program benefits no one other than to help some dealers sell some new cars to some buyers who ditched a good used car to buy a certain model new car that our President dictated that they buy.

Helen asks…
What organization supported the Cash for Clunkers program?
I need to find more information about an non-profit organization which did support the Cash for Clunkers program. It is a project for my Environmental Science class and I only need to know: Name one non-profit organization which supported the Cash for Clunkers program. Thank you in advance.
CSC101 Customer Service answers:
As far as I know, none did (the government and the car-makers are not non-profit organizations), especially if you meant environmental orgazinations.
This was not an environmental program. It was an economic stimulus program meant to increase auto sales. The new cars purchased only had to be very slightly better than the cars that they replaced, and could be much worse than the average car. The environmental benefit from the marginal improvement in fuel economy was much less than the environmental harm from junking one car and manufacturing another. (Car manufacturing involves a number of toxic chemicals that are even worse than car exhaust is.)

Sandy asks…
Cash for Clunkers may be helping the economy in the present time, but will it hurt it in the long run?
I really don’t see how this is going to help the economy at all. I actually think that it will hurt it in the long run. People only buy cars every so often, and by doing the cash for clunkers, they are putting all of the sales that may have happened within 1-3 years into a few months.
Isn’t this just another proof that government should not get involved in the free market?
CSC101 Customer Service answers:
Yes, you are correct. It is just another tax and spend program to create a tax burden with questionable benefits.
And as you pointed out, it will create havoc in auto sales for the near future, as the market of buyers had been depleted by this one-time gimmick.
